Frank Marr

Born: January 17th, 1936

Passed on: January 4th, 2015

We are saddened to announce the death of beloved husband, father and grand-father, Frank Pony Marr. He passed suddenly but peacefully on Jan 4, 2015 surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. Frank Marr was born on January 17, 1936 in the Mong Lau Gong village of the Toisan region in Guangdong Province, China. He immigrated to Canada as a pre-teen where he settled in the city of Kamloops where his parents ran a grocery store. He graduated from Kamloops High School and married his wife, Pamela in 1959. Over the next several years, Frank started the first of two successful restaurants, built his own house by hand, served the community through the Lions Club, and fathered five rambunctious children: Debora, Andrew, Natalie, Toni and Jennifer. After selling his first restaurant he, Pamela and the kids thrived as owners of the House of Marr which they operated continuously from 1972-1996. After over 35 years in the restaurant business, he and Pam retired and began truly enjoying life: they traveled extensively around the world to over 45 different countries; celebrated the marriages of all their children, and welcomed the birth of their five grandsons and seven granddaughters. In 2011, Frank and Pamela moved from Kamloops to the lower mainland, joining a new and welcoming community of friends in Burnaby through clubs and through this Church. Frank lived a full and happy 79 years and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pamela; his five children: Debora, Andrew, Natalie, Toni and Jennifer, and his twelve grandchildren: Matthew, Kimberly, Ryan, Briannon, Jonathan, Andrea, Kathryn, Chloe, Audrey, Logan, Benjamin and Mia. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Brentwood Presbyterian Church (1600 Delta Avenue, Burnaby, BC, V5B-3G2). A luncheon will follow at the Golden Lake Seafood Restaurant at 3:00 pm (3555 East Hastings Street Vancouver, BC). In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Sound System Campaign at Brentwood Presbyterian Church.
